RUSSIA ANNOUNCES SUCCESSFUL TEST OF NEW NUCLEAR CRUISE MISSILE

by October 27, 2025

Russia’s military has confirmed the completion of a successful test launch of its Burevestnik nuclear-capable cruise missile. According to official statements, the weapon system demonstrated exceptional performance during the trial.

Military officials reported that the missile remained airborne for approximately 15 hours and covered a distance of around 14,000 kilometers during the October 22 test. The Chief of the General Staff indicated these figures do not represent the system’s maximum capabilities.

The development of this strategic weapon system reportedly began following the United States’ withdrawal from the 1972 Ballistic Missile Treaty. Defense authorities emphasized that such advanced systems are designed to strengthen defensive capabilities and deter potential aggression against the nation and its partners.

A senior military analyst noted the Burevestnik’s deployment flexibility, stating it can be launched from various platforms including surface vessels and mobile ground installations, providing global reach capability.

The country’s leadership characterized the weapon as unprecedented, claiming no comparable system exists worldwide. The development was reportedly met with skepticism even among technical experts during its early stages.

International defense analysts have acknowledged the missile’s potential operational advantages, particularly its extensive range and autonomous operation capabilities that enable deployment from multiple launch platforms.
