The Georgian Interior Ministry has declared that any public demonstrations in the coming days will be treated as extensions of recent violent unrest, with security forces prepared to take necessary actions.
In an official statement, the ministry indicated it has reason to believe planned gatherings represent continuations of previous incidents and will implement measures to maintain public order and security. Citizens have been urged to avoid activities that could lead to legal consequences.
The warning follows significant disturbances during what organizers termed a “Peaceful Revolution” demonstration in Tbilisi. During the event, which coincided with local elections, participants challenged the government’s legitimacy and called for a transfer of power.
The situation escalated when some demonstrators attempted to breach security near the presidential residence, located approximately one kilometer from the main protest site. Security personnel employed tear gas and water cannons to disperse crowds after protesters erected barricades using materials from nearby establishments and reportedly threw projectiles including fireworks and stones.
Medical authorities reported numerous injuries among both law enforcement personnel and demonstrators, with several individuals requiring hospitalization. Multiple organizers of the event have been taken into custody.
The country’s Prime Minister has characterized the weekend events as an attempted overthrow of the government.
