YEREVAN – On the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the nation’s sovereignty, the President of Armenia has issued a public address, framing the holiday as both a commemoration of the past and a launchpad for the nation’s future trajectory.
In his message, the President reflected that the decisive choice for statehood made over three decades ago set the country on a path marked by severe trials, conflicts, and profound losses. This difficult journey, he noted, imparted a crucial lesson: independence’s true value is realized only when it actively serves the people’s security, prosperity, and peace.
The address identified the establishment of a lasting peace as the most critical and immediate objective for the state. This peace was described not as a temporary cessation of hostilities or a fragile accord, but as a durable and reliable foundation essential for building Armenia’s future.
The President emphasized that peace is not merely a product of external diplomacy but must also be rooted in internal national conviction, solidarity, and collective strength. He confirmed that steps are currently being taken to achieve a comprehensive peace, characterizing the process as complex and demanding significant patience, political will, and sincerity from all parties involved.
A successful peace process, it was stated, would herald a new era of qualitative relations with neighboring countries, fostering good-neighborly coexistence, open borders, and fresh economic and cultural prospects. While acknowledging the challenges inherent in this path, the President asserted it is the only viable route to guarantee the nation’s development and ensure a prosperous and dignified life for its citizens.
The message concluded by redefining independence as an ongoing, dynamic process rather than a static historical date. It is a continuous responsibility that must be manifested through daily work, a unified national consciousness, and a consistent commitment to a peaceful and sovereign future.
